Health and Safety Coordinator

The Health and Safety Coordinator
provides functional leadership in the development, maintenance and coordination
of the plant health and safety program. The position has ongoing
responsibilities to assess plant safety performance and where appropriate
develop and implement plans to improve safety performance.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Maintains and develops plant safety
policies and procedures to ensure they are in compliance with the Ontario
Occupational Health and Safety Act and in accordance with Corn Products
policies
- Responsible to ensure communication
of plant safety policies and procedures to employees, management personnel,
contractors and visitors
- Provides interpretation of policies
to management personnel and assistance to facilitate policy implementation and
resolve issues
- Periodically monitors to verify
compliance with company policies.
- Acts as the lead management
representative on the Joint Health and Safety Committee
- Responsible to provide input to
management regarding safety committee plant audits, concerns and
recommendations
- WSIB certified management
representative on committee
- Responsible to maintain monthly
minutes and to coordinate and communicate timely follow-up activities and
resolution of issues and concerns arising out of monthly meetings.
- Emergency Action Plan Coordinator
responsible to maintain and communicate plan components to employees,
management personnel and local emergency responders
- Accountable to coordinate
orientation and training for employees, the EAP committee and local fire
department
- Port Facility Officer under Marine
Security Act with responsibility to ensure compliance with the Marine Security
Act
- Position is also responsible for the
plant security function.
- Conduct root cause investigation of
recordable injuries and other identified safety incidents in conjunction with
department supervisors and monitor follow-up activities to ensure timely
completion
- Company contact and liaison with the
Ministry of Labour Industrial and Construction Safety Officers
- Company contact for property loss
prevention audits conducted by the underwriter.
- Provides back up for WSIB
administration
Performs other duties in support of
department activities.
REQUIREMENTS
- A thorough
knowledge of all related health and safety legislation including the
Occupational Health and Safety Act and Industrial Regulation. Possession of a
professional safety designation (CSSE, CHSC, CRSP) is an asset.
- Post secondary
education in a technical discipline or equivalent in education and experience.
- Demonstrated
commitment to the promotion of a safe working environment in an industrial
setting.
- Demonstrated
strong verbal and written communications skills with the ability to communicate
across functional lines and at all levels in the plant organization.
- Strong planning
and time management skills; ability to effectively handle a variety of
assignments simultaneously.
- Previous
experience in chemical processing, pulp and paper, food processing industries
are ideal.
