Mining Engineer



Department

The Long Tern Planning Department is responsible for strategic short- and long term planning as well as operational support in line with the company’s mission of safe, long term growth and production focus.

 

Position

A vacancy exists for a Mining Engineer in the Long Term Planning Department. Reporting to the Superintendent: Production Planning, the successful incumbent will be responsible for development of sound short term and long term mine plans covering all stages from mining modelling, pit & dump design, reserve estimation to production scheduling for optimal recovery of Rossing’s mineral resources.

Main responsibilities

  • Maintaining health, safety and environmental standards.
  • Pit optimisation, Pit design and dump design.
  • Reserve estimation, production and equipment scheduling
  • Process improvements, short /long term projects
  • Stockpile management and monitoring of the implementation of both short and long term plans by mining operations.

The incumbent should possess the following competencies

Applying Expertise and Technology:

  • Applying specialist and detailed technical expertise; using technology to achieve work objectives and developing job knowledge and expertise (theoretical and practical) through continual professional development
  • Demonstrating an understanding of different organizational departments and functions.
Analyzing
  • Analyzing numerical data and all other sources of information, probing for further information or greater understanding of a problem
  • Making rational judgments from the available information and analysis.
  • Formulating Strategies and Concepts: Working strategically to realize organizational goals

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelors degree in mining plus 3 years mine production and planning experience
  • Higher Diploma/ BTech in Mining, plus 5 years experience in mining related field.
  • Experience with Mining Software, e.g. MineSight, Vulcan

Desirable Requirements:

  • High level of mining computer application.
  • Working knowledge of Whittle or similar Mine Optimization software will be an advantage.
  • Code BE drivers license
  • Short listed candidates will be subjected to assessments.
