Manager Power Efficiency



Department

  • The Projects Department is responsible for the management and execution of capital and operational projects throughout the mine.

 

Position

  • Based at Rössing Mine Site this position reports to the General Manager Projects and the successful incumbent will be responsible to manage the short and long term power supply and demand balance and to improve on the efficiency of power consumption throughout the min

 

Main responsibilities

  • Responsible to ensure detail knowledge of power demand and consumption patterns, the prediction, monitoring and controlling thereof.
  • Responsible to ensure that power supply strategies and agreements accurately reflect the company’s present and future plans.
  • Responsible for continuous analysis and identification of opportunities to decrease exposure to supply fluctuations and the optimization of demand distribution and cost.
  • Responsible for the support of and input to designs, standards and all related projects to ensure the company complies, promotes and increases its compliance with energy requirements of Rössing and Rio Tinto.
  • Responsible for the compilation and updating of and training in Demand Side Management (DSM) and participation in Disaster Management and Recovery (DM&R) activities related to power supply and demand.

 

The incumbent should possess the following competencies

  • A thorough understanding of power demand scenarios of different equipment and resulting interaction thereof.
  • A thorough knowledge of controls and monitoring to ensure the implementation of efficiencies as required
  • The ability to conceptualise, propose and motivate, and drive an improvement project to completion
  • The ability to analyse the implications of actions and to ensure the co-operation of all involved in a crisis situation
  • The ability to interact with power supply entities to establish a sound base of knowledge and co-operation
  • A good understanding of regulatory permitting requirements
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication and influencing skills.
  • Self motivated, accustomed to working proactively in positions of responsibility and accountability.

 

Minimum Requirements:

  • B Sc degree in Electrical/Electronic engineering
  • Registration with the Engineering Council of Namibia as a Professional Engineer
  • Valid Code 08 (BE) driver’s license
  • At least five years working experience in a Senior Management position, preferably with technical responsibilities
  • Must be able to use MS Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Outlook
  • Short listed candidates will be subjected to assessments.
