Mining Manager

Uruguay Mineral Exploration Inc (UME) is an exploration and operating company that produces approximately 100koz of gold per year at its Minera San Gregorio operation (MSG) in northern Uruguay.  Mining production is by a mix of owner-operated and contractor mining fleets from several satellite pits.  UME also has well advanced exploration projects near MSG and in other parts of Uruguay.

UME seeks an experienced Mining Manager for its operations at MSG.  A key function of the role is to complete the training of local professionals over a 1-2 year period to enable seamless succession.  After that period, it is envisaged that the successful candidate will be free to lead future operational developments.

Principal Responsibilities

• Ensure that high standards of safety and environmental performance are met.
• Assist in the creation of mine schedules and budgets.
• Ensure that the mining operations meet the targets of production and cost in accordance with budgets.
• Mentor and develop local operational and professional staff.
• Oversee the development and implementation of Integrated Management Systems.
• Ensure that a high level of communication is maintained between the Mining Department and other areas.

The ideal candidate will possess:

• 10-15 years of open pit mining experience, some of which in a similar operational management position.
• Sound people management and communication skills
• Sound computer literacy skills, efficient planning, organizing and time management skills
• Spanish language skills would be advantageous.
• Previous work experience in South America would be advantageous.

Preferably the role is residential in a rural city close to the operation, however a FIFO rotation may be considered for the successful candidate.  Salary packages are attractive and other benefits will be negotiated with the successful candidate at interview.
