Safety / Environmental Engineer



THE COMPANY

  • Our client is one of the top three largest producers of lime in North America and a part owner of the largest lime producer in Mexico. In Canada their subsidiaries have operations from New Brunswick to British Columbia. A family owned Canadian company with production facilities located throughout North America. They have been in the lime and limestone business for over 50 years. JOB PURPOSE

  • Working out of the Calgary regional office, the Safety/Environmental Engineer will provide corporate and regional environmental, health and safety support to the Western Canada operations and other internal customers.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Assist the Western Canada Environmental/Safety Manager on:

  • implementing, auditing and tracking of safety best practices, audit resolutions and lessons learned from incident investigations; negotiating and resolving of all safety and health citations in conferences with appropriate governmental agencies; communicating corporate Safety and Health information to company personnel; and, training on all safety and health standards, policies, procedures, metrics and initiatives.

Environmental

  • Preparing reports and permit applications (focus is on air and water quality);
  • Conducting environmental audits.
  • Maintaining complete and accurate JDE environmental work orders for Western U.S. operations.
  • Frequent liaison with regulatory agencies.
  • Conducting detailed review of applicable regulations.
  • Performing due diligence activities related to acquisitions.
  • Engaging in regulatory advocacy activities (federal, provincial, local levels).
  • Selecting and managing consultants.

CANDIDATE PROFILE

As the ideal candidate, your background will include:

  • a science/engineering related bachelor’s degree;
  • two to five years experience in environmental engineering/environmental compliance;
  • two to five years experience in safety/health and industrial hygiene related work;
  • excellent verbal and written communication skills;
  • the ability to influence others in decision making;
  • the ability to work and solve problems independently;
  • the ability to manage multiple projects concurrently;
  • having been successful in both a team and individual based work environment;
  • strong analytical skills and attention to detail; and,
  • proficient in basic computer software (Excel, Work, Outlook).

The ability to travel is also a requirement of the position.
