- Maintains and improves the metallurgical efficiencies of the Penhorwood
Concentrator using sound, proven processes and equipment
- Designs and coordinates plant and/or equipment construction,
modification, or overhaul activity in the talc processing facility
- Assignments are complex and important to the success of the organization
- Generally works with minimal supervision
- Solves problems, which require originality and ingenuity using a broad
knowledge of the principals, practices and procedures of the field.
Job Accountabilities:
- Fully supports the location health, safety environmental, and quality
(HSEQ) programs by participating in their implementation, maintenance and
enforcement as well as compliance with Corporate programs and policies.
- Fully utilizes the change management process to minimize and control
impacts of proposed changes
- Designs equipment and develops processes for manufacturing talc
products.
- Responsible for capital project preparation and management.
- Provides technical support to operating locations.
- Analyzes operating procedures and equipment and machinery functions to
reduce processing time and cost.
- Designs and plans measurement and control systems for mineral processing
plants based on data collected in laboratory experiments, pilot plant, and mill
operations.
- Determines most effective arrangement of unit operations exercising
judgment to compromise between process requirements, economic evaluation,
operator effectiveness, and physical and health hazards.
- Directs training activities of workers who operate and control such
equipment as control systems and pumps, valves, tanks, boilers, compressors,
instruments, grinders, to effect required chemical or physical change.
- Performs tests and takes measurements throughout stages of production to
determine degree of control over variables such as temperature, density and
pressure.
- Designs and directs engineering and technical personnel in fabrication
of testing and test control apparatus and equipment.
- Confers with scientific, engineering, contractors, consultants, and
technical personnel to resolve problems such as product or system malfunctions,
incomplete test data and data interpretation.
- Analyzes and interprets process related information and prepares
technical reports for use by engineering and management personnel.
- Oversees the procurement, programming and installation of existing and
new process controls.
- Insures that all process settings, data, programs, drawings and reports
are backed up and secure.
- Travels to other Luzenac locations and supplier/ customer facilities, as
directed.
- Assists maintenance and production departments in troubleshooting,
safety activities, training, and providing technical support.
- Applies knowledge of engineering principles to assist with investigation
of improvement ideas and resolution of problem areas.
- Maintains courteous, professional relationships with Company line and
staff functions, employees, outside contractors and governmental
agencies.

- Knowledge of electrical and PLC systems

- Three to five years related experience and/or training.
- Bachelor’s degree from a three-year university course in metallurgical
or process engineering or related technical area; or equivalent combination of
education and experience
