Team Lead Environment - Oil Sands

Reporting to the Director of CCRA (Community Consultation & Regulatory Affairs), the successful candidate will work from the Calgary Office together with other representatives of the CCRA Team. You will participate in the development of regulatory applications and represent the Long Lake Project to Federal, Provincial and Municipal government agencies.
This position is eligible for Nexen's Compressed Work Schedule program (CWS). This program provides flexibility in work hours to assist employees in balancing their work and personal lives. CWS participants work eight hours and 40 minutes per day and earn two Fridays off per month, for a total of 24 days off annually.
Job Duties/Responsibilities
The Team Lead, Environment is responsible for providing direction and leadership to achieve operational goals and objectives, and to ensure alignment with our business strategies. In this role, you will make decisions related to the planning, organization, and completion assignments within the scope of the business strategies. The ideal candidate will possess excellent communication, project management, community consultation, regulatory and evaluation skills.
- Utilize technical knowledge to plan, conduct and coordinate complex assignments;
- Manage objectives and priorities for the team;
- Plan, schedule and review work, and provide any necessary guidance;
- Develop regulatory applications in support of Long Lake projects;
- Direct the work of consultants’ field studies and application preparation;
- Support other regulatory applications and CCRA programs as needed;
- Represent Long Lake on selected industry/regional associations and committees;
- Assist in the execution of stakeholder consultation plans;
- Take an active role in the development of the team dynamics geared towards positive business success and results;
- Oversee staffing plans and provide leadership/coaching/mentoring to a professional team;
- Develop strategies for change and continuous improvement;
- Make necessary decisions on some day-to-day operating matters within constraints of company policy.
Education/Experience
- Undergraduate degree/diploma in a related discipline ¿ (B.Sc. or Environment related technical diploma);
- 13 to 20 years experience working with provincial and federal environmental regulations pertaining to oil & gas;
- Oil sands background is an asset;
- Project management background and proficiency;
- Proven ability to handle technical and strategic issues;
- Strong Leadership/people skills;
- Excellent communication skills (interpersonal, verbal and written);
- Advanced knowledge/skills in MS Office (PowerPoint, Word & Excel);
- Highly developed presentation and organizational skills;
- Ability to work with a diverse range of people.
