Senior/Principal Instrument Engineer

Job Description

  • Input to coaching, teaching, mentoring and effective supervision of assigned personnel.
  • Assists in the development of Project Instruments Engineering CTR’s for review with Chief Engineer.
  • Reports to the Principle Engineer the status of Instruments Engineering activities and Deliverables.
  • Initiates the development of all required discipline deliverables for the assigned area
  • Ensures communication flow, both verbal and written, is maintained within Instruments Engineering group and with other engineering disciplines.
  • Assists with the upkeep of storage and listing of all (Discipline) Engineering specific standards stored on the computer network
  • Coordinates Instruments Engineering design activities with other design and engineering groups.
  • Identifies deviations in job scope, estimates, and initiates PVN’s.
  • Receives and distributes design instructions pertaining to plant design requirements and procedures.
  • Represents Area/Unit Instruments Engineering in meetings with suppliers, subcontractors, licensors, clients, and other Company disciplines, and produces documentation required for conference or meeting notes.
  • Reviews and approves Area/Unit Instruments Engineering design drawings.
  • Submits Area/Unit Instruments Engineering design drawings to Principal Engineer for issue.
  • Monitors quality control for assigned area.
  • Assists in the development of the Instruments Engineering project completion report.
  • Stand in for Principal Engineer if required during periods of absence
  • On assignment to the field, co-ordinates or carries out work on site surveys, measurements, acts of acceptance, and other site engineering activities.
  • Prepare Electronic Drawings as per Clients design specifications (AutoCAD, Microstation etc.).
  • Adhere to Company and Client Drawing standards and formats and be able to work to ISA symbols and standards.
  • Prepare Scope of Work documents.
  • Conduct Site Installation Surveys and generate Detailed Report.
  • Prepare/Review Termination Detail Drawings.
  • Produce/Review Instrument Loop Diagrams.
  • Prepare/Review Instrument Layout Drawings.
  • Prepare/Review Cable Tray and Routing Drawings.
  • Prepare/Review Junction Box Layout Drawings.
  • Prepare/Review Instrument Mounting/Hook-up Drawings.
  • Prepare/Review Instrument, ESD and Fire & Gas Block Diagrams.
  • Prepare/Review Control System, ESD and Fire & Gas Specifications.
  • Prepare/Review Instruments related, Specifications Documents.
  • Prepare/Review Control System, ESD and Fire & Gas Operating Philosophies.
  • Prepare/Review Control System, ESD and Fire & Gas Cause & Effect Charts.
  • Prepare/Review Instruments MTO’s.
  • Prepare/Review Instrument Data Sheets.
  • Ensure compliance of Instrument cable selections by Design Section.
  • Prepare/Review Material Requisition to Client standards.
  • Prepare/Review Instruments Job Pack for executing site installation and testing.
  • Select correct Field Instrumentation in compliance with Environmental and Service conditions.
  • Ensure that Field Instrumentation is compliant with Hazardous Area Classification.
  • Work to IEC 61508 AND 61511 Standards.
  • Work to API/ANSI/BS/IEC Standards.
  • Work to latest GOST and SNiP Standards.
  • Performs Single Discipline Check on issued documents.
  • Prepare Weekly Highlight Reports for Principal Engineer.
  • Update Deliverable Lists on a weekly basis and issue to Principal Engineer. and look ahead work schedule.
  • Carry-out final drawing checks on drawings carried out by Design Section.
  • Liaise with the Client and Site personnel on site related queries.
  • Assist in the coaching of Instrument Design Engineer.
  • Identify improvements within the Design Section and relay to Senior Instrument Engineer.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor Degree of Engineering in Instrument

Any Special Requirements

  • Preferably 6 - 8 years plus relevant, depending on the individual, prior experience or additional training, job assignments, etc
  • Preferably 2 to 4 years of relevant oil and gas project experience
