Our Client is a publicly listed mining exploration company, with a
reliable source of funding. The company has reached agreement to bring an
underground base metal mine back into production in the Arctic.
The company seeks a Mine or Construction Foreman:-
- This person will be a ‘hands-on’ person, not afraid to don overalls and
fix or build something themselves
- Part of your functions relate to working with the blasting contractors,
which will require you to load explosive, decide on blasting designs and
finally take photos for e-mail to UK HQ.
The company requires a practical site construction foreman someone who
has worked in Europe and also in the midst of a different
culture, where you needed to adjust to a different way of doing things but it
did not get you down.
To compliment these good organizational skills and being able to monitor
contractors you should have skills related to:
- surveying and setting out work;
- Mucking or earthworks;
- maintaining site safety to EU conditions;
- a good feel for blasting and excavation.
Additionally you need to be able to make decisions and assist in getting
materials to site
This requires confidence and drive with a good sense of humour and
well-developed people skills.
- The mine entrances are at height in a difficult location and the entrance
to the adits are up a cliff.
- You will need to need to cope with heights, especially since lots of the
work will take place on ladders and cliffs.
The company is looking for a person with 12-30 years experience,
predominantly site-based construction/ contracting work.
- The role requires previous experience of mentoring employees or local
employees, a fair amount of this sort of action will be required at this mine
site, for uplifting skills in the local communities
- This is a country with a
narrow focus towards the industrial sector and these skills are distinctly
lacking.
The company is offering an initial contract on a temporary basis;
contract role (6 months), possibly to be renewed, consisting – 8 weeks on: 1
week off. The Rate will be negotiated – offered all found (food, accommodation,
PPE clothing, insurance, etc.) – pay will be based on a gross payment. This is
a very remote site remote, picturesque and with cool weather conditions.
You will rotate on your rotations with the Project Manager and you
should be able to start as close to 10/7/2008 (as possible).
- Ideally, candidates would be European based, for logistical reasons, but
other Nationalities are welcome to apply as long as the technical aspects of
this vacancy are met
- You should be prepared to work FIFO rotations, as well as having the
experience of working in an expatriate environment, or an environment where you
needed to adjust to foreign cultures
