Paramedic (Critical Care Or Trauma Medic) – Scandinavia Arctic Conditions

Our Client is a Junior listed mining exploration company, with a reliable source of funding. The company has reached agreement to bring an underground base metal mine back into production in the Arctic.

The company currently has immediate openings for remote paramedics with prior military or international paramedic (critical care) experience.

  • Interested candidates should hold current state or national EMT-Paramedic (Emergency Medical Technician-Paramedic) certification/ diploma/ degree.
  • Assignments may be independent or as a member of a medical team, based at a mine site medical centre. You will be a member of an isolated medical crew, where full access to advanced medical care is 60-80 km away and could take anything from 20-mins to 5-days to reach by various forms of transport and depending on weather conditions.

Minimum Requirements:

  • CCA or National Diploma/Degree in Emergency Medical Care – or similar;
  • Current registration with HPCSA – or some similar Health Professionals association;
  • Experience as a registered Advanced Life Support Practitioner would be advantageous;
  • Full driver’s license with a valid public drivers permit. An advanced driving qualification would be beneficial;
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills;
  • Ability to handle extreme periods of stress for short periods odf time;
  • Excellent driving, reconnoitring and map reading skills

Responsibilities:

  • Performs diagnostic and therapeutic duties in an emergency care situation within the scope of the profession
  • This role relates to the last line of critical care for mine workers and trauma assistance until a regional hospital can be reached;
  • Maintains good communication with management, the public and other emergency providers following any incident scene, whether on the mine or within the community;
  • Ensures documentation is completed and submitted timeously after each incident and maintains an accurate and well documented filing system of completed Case Sheets;
  • Supervises training of first aid and basic healthcare to mine staff, local community and the various mine shifts;
  • Assists in promoting the mining company with medical services to the local community and the public;
  • Safe, hygienic and efficient care and transportation of patients
  • Remote medical staff are supported through the local healthcare system, medical doctors and the country’s healthcare system.

A competitive and highly attractive expatriate salary, flights, fully furnished accommodation, transport, FIFO rotation – initially 8:2, but could become more attractive when both (2) roles are filled – is on offer.

  • Ideally, candidates would be European based, for logistical reasons, but other Nationalities are welcome to apply as long as the technical aspects of this requirement are met
  • You should be prepared to work FIFO rotations, as well as having the experience of working in an expatriate environment, or an environment where you needed to adjust to foreign cultures.
The company expect someone to take up employment as soon as possible – this is an urgent vacancy – an attractive expatriate contract and terms is on offer for this role.
The nature of the work entails long hours and focus on the corporate goals - the company would entertain married status contract, possibly coupled with employment, however, this would depend on the skills of partners. The location is geographically isolated with harsh climatic conditions.
