Mining Engineer



This position presents an opportunity to work with one of the leading consulting firms in the upper Midwest and a firm that has been recognized as a “Best Place to Work” in Minnesota as well as one of the “Best Engineering Firms to Work For” nationally by CE News.

  • The person in this position will work on multi-discipline project teams providing mine engineering and related technical expertise.
  • Project assignments may include mine planning (both short- and long-term) including stripping requirements, ore blending plans, mine reclamation plans, report writing, cost estimating, and sizing mining equipment fleet
  • This person will also work on projects involving both ferrous and nonferrous minerals including iron ore, taconite, silica sand, and coal
  • The work may at times require short-term, out-of-town work assignments.
  • Some work locations may feature rough terrain typical of industrial sites and may also require entering and working within facilities that include limited accessibility, moving machinery, and other conditions typical of industrial facilities
  • Safety training will be provided for work in these areas.

Minimum Qualifications

  • B.S. in Mining, Geotechnical, Geological, or Civil Engineering or related discipline.
  • Experience working at industrial sites.
  • Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • Willingness to work in a project team environment that encourages self-initiative.
  • Five or more years of related experience.
  • A flexible working style as required to meet deadlines and/or client needs.
  • Familiarity with AutoCAD and basic Microsoft Office software packages, especially Excel.
  • Acceptable driving record.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Operations and/or maintenance experience.
  • Professional Engineering (P.E.) licensure or ability to obtain within one year.
  • Strong computer background with working knowledge of computerized mine planning software.
  • Published engineering papers and presentations.
