Metallurgical Technicians



·         Day Shift
·         $24 Per Hour
·         Immediate Start
The role of a metallurgical technician requires attention to detail, numerical accuracy, and a good command of the English language, both written and oral. An interest in and a basic understanding of chemistry or chemical processes would be advantageous. You will have a strong safety ethic and be prepared to work some occasional overtime and shiftwork when required.
 
The technician’s role is to conduct testwork programs under the direction of a professional metallurgist. Testwork programs typically involve the following tasks;
·         Weighing samples using a top loading balance
·         Dry samples and calculate moisture content
·         Labelling samples with job numbers, weights and other identifiers
·         Using sample preparation equipment such as small jaw, cone and rolls crushers, vibrating screens, disc mills (sample pulverisers), rotary splitters, riffle splitters, and small batch grinding mills
·         Working with chemicals some of which are classified as hazardous. Sub tasks associated with this work include decanting and dilution of acids, use of alkaline substances such as hydrated lime, dilution of a wide range of chemical reagents and the controlled addition of the same to process streams.
·         Conducting leach tests on mineral samples using basic laboratory equipment such as mechanical and magnetic stirrers, immersion heaters, centrifuges and vacuum filtration systems.
·         Using laboratory pressure filters.
·         Measuring and monitoring chemical flow rates
·         Wet or dry screening of sub-samples to produce a range of size fractions and filter and dry samples for analysis
·         Conducting settling tests on mineral slurries
·         Some mathematical calculations
·         Maintaining accurate and up to date records of all test data.
 
While not mandatory some knowledge of Microsoft Excel would be favourably regarded.
