Koniambo is one of
the largest and richest untapped nickel deposits in the world. This site is one
of the most coveted in the world.
The project is
developed by Koniambo Nickel SAS, a joint venture bringing together SMSP Société
Minière du
Sud Pacifique
(51%) and Xstrata Nickel (49%). The mining complex will include an open pit
mine, a metallurgical plant, power station and port facilities. The laterite
ore will be extracted openpit and processed in a pyrometallurgical plant with a
production capacity of 60 ktpa of nickel in the form of ferronickel. The
current mine plan is 25 years but there is great potential for extension of
current operating plan. The start-up of the plant is scheduled for early 2011. We
are presently seeking candidates to fill this position:
Superintendent of
Mining Engineering
SUMMARY
- Reporting directly
to the Mine Manager, the incumbent is responsible for directing all activities
of technical services and mining engineering.
- Active member of
the mine’s Managing Committee.
MAIN
RESPONSABILITIES :
- The Superintendent
of Mining Engineering applies its technical and planning knowledge to optimize
the Mine’s performance while coordinating staff and planning systems to achieve
the highest levels of standards in:
- Health and safety,
environmental compliance, reliability of production data: ore quality, quality
of planning & productions schedules; cost performance and resource use.
MINE DEVELOPMENT :
- Is responsible for
the implementation plans, of detailed execution, of operation procedures and
training material for the Engineering Service;
- Develop procedures
for estimating reserves & mine planning ;
- Responsible for
selection, recruitment, hiring and training the Mining Engineering Service staff ;
- Supervises eleven
(11) subordinates: short-term planning engineer, long-term planning engineer,
an engineer in sediments control, an engineer in mining operations control;
- Coordinates
specification, evaluation and implementation of Mining Management Information
Systems activities, choice of software and development procedures;
- Participates in IT
and supports suppliers negotiations;
- Performs related
tasks: agreements with technical consultants, IT, etc.
PRODUCTION :
- Is responsible for
achieving H&S, environmental and social compliance targets;
- Supervises
technical team daily;
- Develops reliable
planning, production schedules and performance systems;
- Ensures the
judicious use of equipment and data within its Service;
- Responsible for
reserves calculations.
GENERAL :
- Performs other
related tasks: Continuous improvement initiatives, positive contribution and
active in various committees & projects, etc.
EDUCATION :
- University degree
in mining engineering, or project management, or any other engineering
specialization.
PROFESSIONAL
EXPERIENCE AND KNOWLEDGE :
- Several years of
relevant experience in open pit mining as a department head of engineering, or
other engineering department with relevant expertise and experience;
- Knowledge of
mining extraction in open pit setting and experience in mining project with
department set-up;
- Very strong French
spoken, with functional English;
- Able to plan and
organize resources in partnership with outside firms;
- International
experience an asset.
