Xstrata Nickel Sudbury Operations

Environmental Coordinator

  • Reporting to the Superintendent, Environment and HSEC Systems, the Environment Coordinator develops and manages programs and systems to ensure that all legal and policy obligations in environment and are understood and met
  • In addition the position is responsible for providing leadership for the certified Environmental Management system (EMS) and will participate in audits and communicate the philosophy and requirements of the EMS to all parts of the operations
  • Be accountable for providing advice related to specific environmental projects, regulations and company environmental activities in keeping with the overall objectives of the company to be environmentally responsible and progressive while maintaining profitability
  • Be accountable for leading design planning and implementation of effective abatement and prevention programs to ensure that operations are in compliance with environmental legislation, company policies and procedures.
  • The ideal candidate will have a university degree in Environmental Science or related discipline with 5-10 years of related professional experience, preferably in the mining sector
  • This position requires an individual with a strong technical knowledge of work and external environment obligations and management systems
  • The incumbent must have strong influence, leadership, communication and planning skills to manage the scope and distributed obligations and roles.
