Vegetation / Rare Plant Specialist



The Position
Due to expanding operations and increased workload, we are seeking the following individual to join our team of scientists and engineers in either our Calgary, Edmonton or Fort McMurray office locations: 
 
As a Vegetation and Rare Plant Specialist, the candidate will be expected to:
  • Effectively scope vegetation assessment requirements
  • Participate in, coordinate or manage vegetation projects
  • Communicate effectively with individuals and within teams
  • Co-ordinate and mentor junior staff
 
This position will initially involve working under the supervision of senior team members, with the opportunity to assume increasing autonomy and responsibility.
 
Job Requirements
 
Qualifications
  • University degree(s) in botany, biology, ecology, environmental science or related discipline
  • Minimum of 5 years experience in environmental assessment or vegetation/terrestrial science activities with a minimum of 3 years in detailed report preparation and finalization
  • The ability to conduct and lead vegetation assessments and rare plant surveys
  • Demonstrate ecosite classification knowledge
  • Strong analytical skills applicable to study design and statistical analysis of environmental data using parametric, non-parametric and multivariate techniques
  • Strong writing and communication skills
 
In addition, it would be beneficial for the successful candidate to possess the following:
  • Experience in environmental consulting particularly vegetation assessment, biodiversity and reclamation
  • Knowledge of the needs of clients from a variety of industries, as relevant to the experience areas listed above
