Reserve and Resource Geologist



  • The position of Reserve and Resource Geologist is responsible for ensuring mineral reserves and resources are estimated to proper standards on an annual basis at operating mines and advanced projects within Centerra Gold Inc
  • The incumbent is responsible for the evaluation of the mineral reserves/resources and exploration potential of possible acquisitions and joint ventures.

NATURE AND SCOPE

  • With diverse international operations and geological environments, the key objective is to provide a sound valuation and accurate disclosure of the mineral asset base of Centerra
  • A second key objective is to support business development by being able to effectively compile, analyze and evaluate geological, mineral reserve, mining, and economic information from a very broad range of sources in order to make sound recommendations regarding the geological potential of specific gold business opportunities.
  • Another focus area is to provide continuous technical guidance for all geological activities and mining initiatives at the company's mining and advanced projects that allow critical expenditure decisions to be based on reliable assessment of the quantity and quality of the mineral resource at the project
  • The nature of this position requires the incumbent to have a strong technical background, be thoroughly knowledgeable of all Centerra operations and advanced projects, and have an excellent working relationship with the senior exploration, mine geology, operating, project engineering and business development personnel in the Company
  • This is particularly important in the support role to business development which often requires prompt action within aggressive time frames
  • The individual must be internationally focused, a long-term thinker and planner, and be able to operate with minimal direction.

SPECIFIC ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Ensures that the proper procedures are in place for the estimation and classification of mineral reserves and resources under various economic parameters at the Companies’ worldwide operating mines and advanced projects.
  • Conducts reviews and/or completes mineral resource estimations of deposits located by the Exploration Groups or under evaluation by the Business/Corporate Development Group, as well as potential joint ventures with other corporations.
  • Provides mineral reserve technical expertise and instruction to the exploration and mine staff throughout the organization.
  • Advises on design and reviews results of sampling, assaying, drilling and QA/QC programs and mine reconciliations at mining operations and advanced exploration projects throughout the organization.
  • Ensures that high quality results are obtained at advanced projects by initiating external audits of all geological aspects (sampling, assaying, drilling and mineral resource estimation) of the project and by ensuring implementation of significant recommendations.
  • Keeps current with respect to changes or developments in mineral reserve estimation methodologies and reporting regulations.

RELATIONSHIPS

INTERNAL

  • All levels of executives and senior management, exploration, project engineering, operating and technical personnel throughout the Company including the Business/Corporate Development Group and the Legal and Corporate IR/Communications Departments in Toronto.

EXTERNAL

  • Senior management, exploration and operating personnel in competitor companies, financial institutions, consultants, auditors, government agencies and mining associations.

DIMENSIONS

  • A university degree in geology and a minimum of 5+ years of relevant geological experience are required, including a solid background in mine geology in a variety of ore deposit types and mining environments
  • The incumbent requires suitable exploration and advanced project geology experience in order to be able to effectively evaluate exploration potential of possible acquisitions
  • The incumbent must be knowledgeable in various mineral reserve/resource estimation methods and discounted cash flow analysis
  • Strong computer and database management skills and familiarity with relevant computer software program is an asset.

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • The incumbent must be able to effectively deal with the stress of multiple demands and time pressures required to meet deadlines
  • Travel is required, sometimes on very short notice.
