Senior Mechanical Engineer – Mining



Functions:

  • Covers positions at the senior specialist or senior supervisory level of the engineering function.
  • Incumbents perform assignments requiring multi-discipline knowledge of engineering
  • Incumbents have specific business development responsibilities.
  • Analyzing problems and determining critical factors for investigation;
  • Organizing and conducting investigations and analysis;
  • Participating in the development of new engineering methods;
  • Providing expert advice on design processes or construction methods;
  • Approving significant changes in specifications and plans, work techniques and materials;
  • Determining and scheduling work priorities.
  • Providing technical guidance to co-workers;

Requirements:

  • Registration as a professional engineer with a minimum of 10+ years of experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience;
  • Solid understanding of a broad field of engineering and knowledge of reciprocal effects of the work upon other disciplines/ fields;
  • Considerable knowledge of the company's established guidelines, procedures and practices as well as other departments, suppliers and contractors;
  • Proficiency in planning and control methods;
  • Solid understanding of industry and regulatory standards and design criteria;
  • Considerable knowledge of a variety of standard engineering methods and techniques.
  • Must have a strong background with Mechanical Engineering Projects (Ideally Mining) within an EPC Environment.
  • Proposing staffing solutions and training and development opportunities;
  • Organizing and supervising work of a large group of professionals and non-professionals, or small groups of highly specialized engineers;
  • Providing input into salary recommendations, performance evaluations and other Human Resources activities;
  • Being accountable for unit deliverables;
  • Making recommendations on staffing and other Human Resources activities.
  • Makes decisions and recommendations within authorized limits.
  • Exercises considerable judgment and initiative in interpreting policy in the planning and implementation of small projects and/or work assignments
