Geotechnical Engineer

Position Accountabilities
· To provide geotechnical support Koolan Island Operations.
· General geotechnical duties:
· Routine pit inspections including berms and batters. Report and document all instabilities. Complete weekly geotechnical report,
· Slope stability assessment and site investigations,
· Supervising all pit batter clean ups. Ensure the batters are cleaned promptly,
· Conducting pit face mapping as required,
· Geotechnical assessment of all potential impacts of the identified structures on interim and final pit walls,
· Working closely with the Drill and Blast Engineers to optimise blasting practices in specific wall control,
· Slope monitoring,
· Diamond core logging as required.
· Geotechnical work on Main Pit
· Assisting cable bolting on footwall. Ensure the ground condition of all cable bolting holes are recorded and interrelated,
· Assisting footwall clean ups and other remedial works,
· Assisting footwall and seawall monitoring,
· Coordinating Slope Radar monitoring.
Qualifications
· A degree in Mining engineering, Engineering Geology or Geotechnical Engineering.
· Experience and Knowledge
· One or two years experience in a open pit mining environment.
Skills & Abilities
· Ability to communicate with a high level of competence to staff and operators;
· Slope stability assessment and site investigations;
· Pit face mapping;
· Geotechnical assessment of the potential impacts of the identified structures on interim and final pit walls;
· Working closely with the Drill and Blast Engineers to optimise blasting practices in specific wall control
· Slope monitoring;
· Geotechnical logging and data analysis of all future drilling programs.
