Accounting Manager

Overview:

•  A well established Boston based company with operations in eastern Massachusetts and southern New Hampshire is seeking an independent, self-motivated professional for the position of Accounting Manager

• Reporting to the Controller the Accounting Manager will be a key member of the accounting team supporting diversified business operations of 9 companies producing concrete, conducting quarry and mining operations, operating a rail transport system, processing landscape products for wholesale and retail sales and managing land development projects.

• Responsibilities will include management of the day-to-day accounting operations, overseeing general ledger reporting, monthly close process for all the companies

• Manage direct report accounting staff.

• Has primary responsibility for the monthly accounting close process including all balance sheet reconciliations and analysis as well as consolidation of the financial statements

• Responsible for the financial accounting systems (JD Edwards, Command, JWS, BNA)

• Works closely with the Controller in the establishment and maintenance of corporate accounting principles, practices and procedures for the maintenance of fiscal records and preparation of financial reports.

Responsibilities:

• Supervise the accounting  (2 Senior Accountants and 2 Staff Accountants)
• Oversee the entire month end close process for the Company and its subsidiaries.
• Responsible for the timeliness and accuracy of company financial statements and related financial reporting documents; conduct thorough review prior to submittal to Controller for final review.
• Responsible for maintaining the trial balance and all sub-ledger accounts; providing documentation to support the company’s financial statements.
• Maintain the company’s fixed asset software system. 
• Preparation of quarterly financial reports for presentation to Senior Management
• Oversee the preparation of annual budgets for the company and its subsidiaries.
• Coordinate the preparation for the year end audit including preparing schedules and reconciliations
• Assist the Controller in maintaining all internal controls

 Requirements:

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance
• 5+ years of progressive accounting experience
• Manufacturing experience with strong cost accounting skills
• Supervising
• Experience with consolidating financials for multiple entities
• Full-cycle accounting experience in a “hands on” environment.
• Strong organizational and analytical skills with an emphasis on detail
• Ability to multi-task and meet critical deadlines successfully
• Ability to work independently
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
• Good knowledge of GAAP standards, practices and procedures.
• Proficient with spreadsheets and Excel
• JD Edwards experience a plus but will train
