The Greens Creek Mine, located on Admiralty Island, 18 miles south
of Juneau, is an

Position Summary
- Operates and maintains stationary engines and mechanical equipment such
as diesel engines, compressors, generators, motors, and turbines to provide
utilities such as light, heat, and power for buildings, mining, milling and
other industrial processes by performing the following duties.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities of the Position
- Has primary responsibility for the operation of power generation
equipment; operate 4160V switchgear and engine controls; records operation and
maintenance actions taken during shift in operator’s logbook; other maintenance
duties as assigned by management
- Reads meters and gauges or automatic recording devices at specified
intervals to verify operating conditions; records data such as equipment
temperature, hours of operation, fuel consumed, analysis of flue gases,
voltage, load and generator balance
- Adjusts manual controls or overrides automatic controls to bring
equipment into recommended or prescribed operating ranges, switch to backup
equipment or systems, or to shut down equipment
- Visually inspects equipment at periodic intervals to detect malfunctions
or need for repair, adjustment or lubrication; maintains equipment by
tightening fittings, repacking bearings, replacing gaskets, valves, recorders,
and gauges, and cleaning or replacing other components. Oils and lubricates
equipment
- Keeps the general powerhouse area clean and picked up
- Assist with minor and major maintenance of diesel and turbine engines
and their components
- Must have the ability to work accurately with precision tools
- Other duties may be assigned

required to stand, walk or sit for extended periods of time; use hand and

- The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and
occasionally lift and/or move up to 75 pounds
- Specific vision requirements for this job include close vision, distance
vision, and the ability to adjust focus
- Employees may be frequently exposed to underground work environments;
outside weather conditions, wet and/or humid conditions; extreme cold, extreme
heat, potentially hazardous wildlife; moving mechanical parts; high precarious
places; fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals; risk of
electrical shock; explosives and vibration
- The noise level in most work environments is usually very loud
- This position may require work on nights, weekends and rotating shifts;
shift schedules may require residency in on-island camp during work rotations
Education Requirements
- High school or equivalent required. Related vocational/technical
education and power generation/electrical certification preferred.
Experience
- Basic computer skills are required
- Welding skills and previous experience maintaining and calibrating a
Continuous Emissions Monitoring system is desirable
- Basic AC power generation helpful. Diesel maintenance and overhaul
experience is preferred.
