Metallurgist



Job Type:

  • Location: Peterborough, ON, CA Our client is involved in the advanced technology for nuclear energy for product lines support in new reactors, nuclear fuel, reactor services and performance services. They are currently looking for a Metallurgist to join their team at their Peterborough location.
Responsibilities for this position include, but are not limited to the following:
  • Establish and drive the characterization program for incoming and in-process powder (i.e. particle size, apparent density, flowability, O/U ratio, moisture, green strength, etc).
  • Develop relationships between powder characteristics and process parameters to provide optimum quality.
  • Perform measurements with powder characterization equipment, design experiments, analyze data with statistical tools, and work closely with operators, maintenance personnel and process specialists to identify and optimize key processing parameters.
  • Initiate and lead projects that will optimize the processes through improvements in powder flow and process optimizations.

Qualifications for this role include:

  • Minimum of 5 years experience in the field of powder handling, preferably uranium powder.
  • Strong experiential skills in failure analysis, manufacturing processes and controls, material properties including powder characterization, bulk powder handling and metallurgy, quality systems and standards, reliability assessment and design reviews.
  • Undergraduate engineering degree in Metallurgy / Industrial / Mechanical Engineering / Chemical or related discipline.
  • Post-graduate degree in Powder Characterization/ Bulk Material Handling / Powder Metallurgy / Ceramics / Materials /Chemical would be desirable.
  • Extensive hands-on experience with powder blending, powder analysis, powder flowability and bulk material handling
  • Experience in a "unionized" shop floor environment.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Powder Compaction, Ceramic Sintering would be an asset.
