The Geotechnical Division is currently seeking a New Graduate Geotechnical Engineer. You will report to a Senior Geotechnical Engineer responsible for tailings dykes (fluid containment structures), mine waste dump designs and mine wall stability. You will be interacting with planning engineers, geologists, scientists and operations staff in a team environment with multiple tasks and changing priorities. Strong, ongoing mentorship is provided for successful applicants.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Design of in situ pit walls, in-pit and out-of-pit mine waste dumps and earth-fill fluid-retaining tailings dam structures
- Conduct slope stability analyses of in situ and fill slopes
- Provide field engineering support to mine operations leaders, mine planners and field monitors to optimize dam and dump field construction on an ongoing basis
- Perform quality assurance/quality control and interpretation of instrumentation data on structures and dumps
- Prepare technical reports for regulatory submission
Qualifications
- University graduate with degree in Civil, Geological or Environmental Engineering with a specialization or interest in Geotechnical Engineering
- Strong computer skills are required, experience with Microsoft Office suite of programs is essential
- Eligibility for registration with APEGGA
ASSETS:
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work in a team environment
- Strong oral communication skills; able to communicate to all levels in the organization
- Strong written communication skills; able to prepare technical reports
- Previous work term experience in oil sands
- Knowledge of CADD systems, preferably Microstation
- Knowledge of slope stability software (G-Slope or Slope W)
