Mining Engineer

Lafarge is
currently looking to employ a mining engineer for an underground stone
operation in Joliet IL.
- The engineer’s
responsibilities will include all aspects of a room and pillar underground
stone operation.
- These include, but
are not limited to, surveying, ventilation planning and monitoring, structural
mapping, ground control, safety training, mine design and planning.
- The engineer will
also assist in managing the crew, doing design work for special projects as
they arise, helping keep the mine in compliance per MSHA regulations,
continually look for ways to improve the operation, marking headings and
keeping the maps up to date,
- The engineer will
work with the Mine Foreman and Mine Manager and report directly to the
Engineering Manager.
- The successful
candidate will have a B.S. in mining engineering and be self motivated, detail
and goal oriented with the willingness to do what it takes to get the job done
safely and correctly in a fast moving, aggressive environment.
- Skills required
include: the willingness to work underground, be AutoCAD literate understanding
the use of ‘froms’ and ‘right blocking’, be willing and able to survey, do
ventilation studies, be familiar w/MSHA regulations, able to oversee operations
in foreman’s absence and keep records.
Compensation is
competitively based with 401K, stock options, bonus, vacation and holiday pay
and a pick up truck.
