Drilling Operations Manager



The unit general Manager is leader of the drilling division, and is responsible for ensuring that management decisions are made and implemented within reasonable time limits. The Manager will ensure that policies are decided and implemented and that top priority is given to maintaining and, where possible, improving the divisions services and lines of business. The manager has overall responsibility for management's performance in carrying the policies and plans and procedures determined in conjunction with the head office. You will ensure that effective machinery exists and have to ability to forecast machine life expectancy and to establish life expectancy plans for them. You will report to the Vice President of Operations on performance of the division and account for all production costing budgeting and forecasting.

Main Responsibilities

  • The division general manager will be responsible for monthly, quarterly and annual budget designs identifying where the service to facilities and to clients could be improved
  • The division general manager will be responsible for producing programs for the delivery of services which are efficient and effective.
  • Identify where cost improvement can occur, and ensure that such improvements are incorporated in the strategic program of the Division.
  • Ensure that there are means for monitoring cost effectiveness
  • Ensure that appropriate and integrated management information is made available, to enable the management function at unit level and below to run efficiently.
  • Account for the effective use of the divisions resources, ensuring that the unit keeps within its approved financial policy.
  • The unit general manager will produce and maintain the management structure for the division, which clearly outlines responsibilities and accountabilities within the division.
  • Lead unit management to ensure that there is a corporate approach to the affairs of the division generally.
  • Enable those others involved in management of the unit to provide an input into decision making.
  • Ensure that professional advice is always available to the division management group.
  • Delegate responsibility to those for whom such responsibility is reasonable.
  • Provide management leadership and inspirational Motivation to all staff within the division
  • Ensure that the unit complies with appropriate legal and statutory requirement
  • The unit general manager will develop the divisions public relations, establishing effective links with the press and other Media, being prepared to represent division management publicly whenever necessary.
  • Foster effective working relationships with other agencies.

Qualifications

  • 5 plus years in an operations type role preferably in the MINING sector. .
  • 3+ years in a managerial role
  • Knowledge of the Diamond Drilling industry
  • The ability to grow a business,
  • Not afraid to visit the sites of clients in the bush
  • Bilingual in Spanish and English
  • The desire to live in Mexico
  • A minimum of a Bachelor of Engineering or bachelor of Business Administration or a B.Sc in Geology or a P.Geo
  • An MBA would be an asset
  • A Technical background in heavy equipment or related field
  • Full working knowledge of MS Office and MS Project
  • Knowledge of standard human resource practices
