Metallographic Technician

Metallographic Technician

Specific Responsibilities

  • Prepare and analyze aluminum samples in accordance with the PoDFA metallographic method and the process in effect at ABB.
  • Prepare analysis reports and make them approved by the engineering responsible for the analysis.
  • Maintain files related to the metallographic analysis and draw up inventory of incoming and outgoing samples.
  • Maintain in good condition the metallographic lab equipment.
  • Perform tasks in accordance with the current standards, instructions, work processes, policies and procedures.
  • Provide training to customers on metallographic analysis.
  • Provide technical assistance to customers (telephone, fax or E-mail).
  • Perform any other related task as required by the immediate supervisor.

 

Qualifications

  • Diploma of Collegial Studies in metallurgy or equivalent;
  • Knowledge of the preparation methods of metal samples for metallographic analysis (cutting, assembling and polishing).
  • Microscope analysis abilities.
  • Organized and taste for lab and analytical work;
  • Bilingualism (written and spoken English and French);
  • Ability to write analysis reports in a logical way and to communicate easily in French and English.
  • Experience in the aluminum field or knowledge of the PoDFA method is an asset.
  • Computer literate and knowledge of Windows environment is essential.

 

Location

  • The metallographic technician is based in Québec (QC, Canada).  However, occasional business travels to customer sites (United-States and international) and other ABB sites.
