Norwest is a rapidly-growing international energy, mining, and
environmental consulting firm working on a wide variety of challenging resource
development issues. Norwest does a significant amount of groundwater
modeling, aquifer testing and analysis, and geochemistry work.
Norwest is a private employee-owned company with approximately 200 full-time
employees. Norwest’s main offices are in Denver, Golden, Salt Lake City, Calgary, and Vancouver. The Denver office, which is
currently hiring, manages the hydrology and environmental work.
Norwest also has satellite offices in rural Colorado, Brisbane, Australia, Beijing, China, and Buenos Aires, Argentina. Eighty
percent of Norwest’s projects are in North America and the rest are
overseas (India, Mongolia, China, Australia, Mozambique, Kazakhstan, Mexico, and Argentina). Norwest
is a market leader in oil sand evaluation and planning, reservoir engineering,
coal mining, and coalbed methane (CBM) evaluation and development.
SUMMARY:
- This position will focus mainly on groundwater modeling, but there will
be some field work.
- The successful candidate will be responsible for developing conceptual
and numerical groundwater, chemical, and heat flow models, evaluating
geochemical data, and planning and performing hydrologic characterization field
work.
- Candidates should be prepared to spend an average of 15% of the time in
the field, depending on project requirements and field season timing.
Range of Responsibilities:
- Develop local to regional conceptual
groundwater models and MODFLOW-based models.
- Pre and post-process model inputs and
outputs including calibration, sensitivity analysis, and mass balance
analysis.
- Design and oversee aquifer testing
programs.
- Analyze aquifer test data
using AQTESOLV or similar software.
- Perform geochemical analyses using
PHREEQ or similar software.
- Write reports summarizing project
context, field work, data reduction, analysis, and interpretation.
- Design and oversee well drilling and
well installation.
- Client and regulatory agency
interaction.
Position
Requirements:
- Master's degree in geology, hydrology,
hydrogeology, geochemistry, civil or geotechnical engineering.
- Experience doing groundwater modeling,
particularly with MODFLOW.
- Advanced capabilities with complex
spreadsheets and databases.
