Mechanical Fitter and Diesel Mechanic

Our Client is a publicly listed mining exploration company, with a reliable source of funding. The company has reached agreement to bring an underground base metal mine back into production in the Arctic.

The company seeks two mechanics for its mine:

• Mechanic (rotational equipment fitter), to carry out maintenance on various pumps, valves, conveyors and rotational mechanical items related to the mine operations
• Experience on an underground operation with shaft access will be important
• Some work on surface will be required.
• Diesel maintenance fitter, to carry out maintenance and ensure availability of turbo-diesel driven CAT mining equipment.
• The role involves undertaking mechanical fitting issues related to mobile plant maintenance on this underground operation.
• Experience related to the disassembly and re-assembly of mobile earthmoving equipment, for underground operations, will be useful.
• The work environment will entail some workshop-based maintenance some underground maintenance.
• Both mechanical roles will involve close working relations with a Foreman and the Engineering Manager of a mining operation in a difficult and harsh climatic environment.
• Some experience of working in a cold weather environment will be a bonus, though this is not essential.
• Applicants would be properly qualified – having served a recognized or time-served apprenticeship, preferably from the mining or metallurgical equipment industry, or another industrial sector utilising similar mechanical equipment
• Experience of a wide range of mechanical maintenance skills (fitting, turning, welding, etc.) would be most useful and advantageous in securing this role - but mine cranes/ shaft winders or CAT earthmoving equipment take priority
• Applicants would still need to have current experience of hands-on maintenance.
• The role requires previous experience of mentoring employees or apprentices, a fair amount of this sort of action will be required at this mine site, for uplifting skills in the local communities
• This is a country with a narrow focus towards the industrial sector and these skills are distinctly lacking.
• Ideally, candidates would be European based, for logistical reasons, but other Nationalities are welcome to apply as long as the technical aspects of this vacancy are met
• You should be prepared to work FIFO rotations, as well as having the experience of working in an expatriate environment, or an environment where you needed to adjust to foreign cultures.

The company expect someone to take up employment around March/April 2009 – an attractive expatriate contract and terms is on offer for this role.
