SUMMARY

  • Support Product Development and Product Maintenance activities.
  • Develops methods of commercially manufacturing forgings from primarily Aluminum, Ferrous, Titanium and Nickel base alloys.
  • Has approval for raw material and work instruction release, and for product release, including Customer delegation as appropriate. Is a principal contact with Suppliers and Customers.
  • Supports quality improvement & cost reduction activity.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Duties and responsibilities include the following, other duties may be assigned.
  • Liaises with internal functional groups to ensure Quality, Technical & Operational objectives are achieved.
  • Have and develop a working knowledge of primarily Aluminum, Ferrous, Titanium and Nickel base alloy metallurgy and processing, and the associated impact on microstructure, mechanical and physical properties
  • Develop knowledge of other alloys as applicable.
  • Understand, implement and maintain the Quality requirements of our Customers, including National and Customer specification reviews, flowing down to internal process instructions as appropriate.
  • Develop hot working, cold working, and heat treating processes to obtain desired characteristics of Customer specifications. Issues reports accordingly.
  • Consults with Engineers and the Operational personnel to develop robust methods of manufacturing alloys at minimum costs, and to implement robust shop floor instructions.
  • Responsible for raw material release, product approval and release, non-conformance reporting, and will liaise with Suppliers & Customers accordingly, and with Sister facilities as appropriate. Maintains Customer approved certification as appropriate.
  • Support Continuous Improvement and Cost Reduction activities as directed, including the use of Quality and Finite Element Analysis tools as appropriate.
  • Issues internal & external Technical reports.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • This job has no direct supervisory responsibilities but involves coordination of internal and/or external Laboratory personnel on specific projects as required.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor's degree (B. S.) from four-year college or university; or equivalent combination of education and experience required.
  • Minimum three years Industrial experience in a manufacturing environment is preferred. Computing literacy is essential.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret the most complex documents.
  • Ability to respond effectively to the most sensitive inquiries or complaints
  • Ability to write detailed technical reports
  • Ability to make effective presentations on complex topics to employees, peers or management.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

  • Ability to apply advanced mathematical or statistical concepts.

REASONING ABILITY

  • Ability to apply principles of logical or scientific thinking to a wide range of intellectual and practical problems.

  • Must posses valid drivers license, be a resident of the United States, or be legally permitted to work in the United States.
