My client, seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer, is the world’s largest diamond producer, accounting for nearly a quarter of world diamond production. Their [Location] mine is also the world’s primary source of rare pink diamonds, its signature stone. Located[Location] , the operation presently comprises an open pit mine and processing facility.
The recent decision to spend A$1 billion to develop an underground mine ensures that the mine will continue beyond the 2008 closure of its open pit until 2018, with capacity to further extend to 2024. The Company continues its significant commitment to[Location] , partnering locally in a range of social, cultural, environmental and economic development initiatives.
Key Purpose:
The Senior Mechanical Engineer is primarily responsible for supplying mechanical engineering input into the Underground Project Surface and Underground Infrastructure Installation. This work shall be formed in a safe and efficient manner and the position holder shall conform to the appropriate Company, Australian or International Standards in the execution of duties.
Key Responsibilities:
· Safety management and administration.
· Project management of contractors.
· Maintain and create mechanical engineering work practices and standards including calculating team based safety and hazard analysis for mechanical engineering installation.
· Provide mechanical engineering support and advice to the Underground site construction team.
· Liaise with the Mine Design and Infrastructure Design Team (Perth) and Underground Development Team (Site).
· Monitor Mechanical Engineering construction program and costs.
· Keep abreast of new industry developments in mechanical engineering regarding materials handling, pumping and infrastructure systems that would be applicable to the Business.
Key Skills / Knowledge Required:
· High Standard and experienced knowledge of Safety Management systems.
· Solid understanding of mechanical engineering principles procedures and installation methods, with special reference to crushing, conveying, dewatering & other infrastructure systems applicable to a mining environment.
· Sound knowledge of all regulations, codes and standards applicable to mechanical plant/infrastructure safety.
· Effective organizational and coordination skills.
· Technical and practical experience in mechanical plant design.
· Ability to effectively manage contractors and consultants to enable activities to be performed on time and within budget.
· Experience in all aspects of mechanical project work.
· Computer literacy and systems knowledge relevant to project management, scheduling and administration.
· Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
