Mine Trainer - Fort Hills North

Description
Reporting to the Training Coordinator and based at the Fort Hills site, the Trainer is responsible for providing mine operating personnel and supervisors with the necessary training, tools, and information to ensure the safe, efficient and cost effective operation of all of the equipment in the mine. This position will perform equipment qualification checks, demonstrate safe and productive operating procedures, supply training materials and information, and assist the Training Coordinator in maintaining accurate and up to date records. Other important aspects will be to evaluate operator performance, provide ongoing productivity feedback, assist in incident investigation, perform new employee orientation, and support the Mine Supervisors in achieving budgeted safety, cost, and productivity targets.
Accountabilities
- Apply industry-best standards to the operator training for shovels, drills, trucks, support equipment, and mine systems
- Provide constructive, objective, specific, and consistent performance feedback to operators and first line supervision, using facts and observations
- Identify training needs to improve mine operating efficiency in the areas of safety, environmental protection, production, and cost
- Provide training in a manner which is consistent with the terms of employment, safety and mine regulations, and company policies and procedures
- Review existing and new training programs and material to ensure they are addressing needs and achieving the desired results
- Develop and deliver classroom and field training to both operators and first line supervisors, using prescribed training methods
- Measure and evaluate trainee performance during and after training courses, and maintain training records on the mine operations database
- Ensure the mine operations training database is up to date and accurate
Capability Requirements
- Demonstrated knowledge and application of training and development techniques, tools, and processes
- Thorough knowledge of the operational characteristics and design capabilities of all mine operating equipment and systems
- Ability to operate a variety of mine equipment
- Familiar with equipment simulators, computerized training programs, and conventional training methodology
- Strong leadership, interpersonal and communications skills
- Ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing
Additional Information
The initial work-schedule is 7 on, 7 off work week consisting of 12 working hours per day.
This position is located at the Fort Hills site north of Fort McMurray. Flexible options for living arrangements will be provided such as commuting or relocation.
