THE COMPANY?
Our Client is a rapidly growing, diversified base metals mining company with operations in Portugal, Spain, Sweden and Ireland. The Company currently has six mines in operation producing copper, nickel, lead and zinc. In addition, the company maintains a development project pipeline which includes a world class copper/cobalt project in Africa and a base metal project in Russia. To complement these assets the Company holds an extensive exploration portfolio and interests in international mining and exploration ventures.
Our Client has a requirement that best practices will be clearly demonstrated in all areas that are central to delivering value.

POSITION SUMMARY
  • Reports to the Geophysics Manager and to General Manager of Southern Europe.
  • Works closely with and provides geophysical expertise to the near-mine and greenfields base-metal exploration teams in Portugal and Spain.
  • Major goals will include insuring that all work activities are done in a safe manner with insignificant environmental impact with a focus on discovery of economic mineral resources.
  • Position will be based in Portugal.
RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Selects cost-effective geophysical solutions to exploration needs;Manages external and internal geophysical field crews;
  • Processes, interprets and reports on geophysical activity;
  • Responsible for health, safety and environment of managed field crews;
  • Manages geophysical budget for the region.
COMPETENCE AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS
  • Minimum Bachelor of Science degree in Geophysics;
  • Very good written and verbal English skills (Portuguese/ Spanish a bonus);
  • Minimum five years of experience in mineral exploration;
  • Demonstrated knowledge of potential and electromagnetic theory;
  • Expertise in magnetic, gravimetric, induced polarization and electromagnetic methodologies as applied to base metal exploration;
  • Effective team member in multi-disciplinary team
