Environmental Superintendent



Responsibilities of the Environmental Superintendent include, for WCCC’s projects and properties in Northeast BC:
  • Full oversight and co-ordination of implementation of construction and operations level requirements of the WCCC Environmental Management System;
  • In collaboration with Corporate office, managing environmental aspects of transitioning projects from the planning and regulatory approval stage to construction and operations;
  • Collaboration with, and support to, the WCCC Environmental Management Committee (EMC) and the VP Environment and Regulatory, as required by the EMS (e.g. annual review of environmental aspects, setting environmental objectives, management review, auditing, development and revision of operating procedures, etc)
  • Liaison with government regulators on construction and operations aspects of permitting, licensing and compliance, including full responsibility for operating-level permit amendments; and collaboration with Corporate office in permitting for new projects and major permit amendments (capital projects);
  • In conjunction with the Manager, Technical Services, co-ordinating activities required to meet permit conditions and achieve regulatory compliance;
  • Supervision of operational environmental monitoring programs, and advice and field support on monitoring programs for new projects
  • Review and quality control of environmental monitoring data at operating mines, and identification of need for monitoring program revisions or modifications to mine operations to meet environmental objectives;
  • Management of environmental non compliance issues, including incident reporting, corrective actions, and record keeping;
  • Planning and implementation of reclamation programs;
  • Environmental site and environmental supervision/inspection of contractors;
  • Operational liaison with public, stakeholders, and First Nations, including a lead role in supporting First Nations Environmental Review and Advisory Committee(s).
  • Supervision of site environmental staff, and environmental contractors in areas of site responsibility.
  • Leadership in development of environmental staff.
  • Optimizing benefits and productivity of working relationships with Corporate office, including co-ordination in areas of overlapping responsibility, meeting planning, etc.

Required Qualifications
  • B Sc minimum
  • Operational Experience
