Senior Mine Engineer



SCOPE/PURPOSE:
  • Under direction of the Manager, Technical Services or the Mine Manager, the Senior Mine Engineer develops mining concepts, directs pit and dump designs and preparation of mine plans and schedules in support of feasibility studies, permit applications, development and operations.

PRINCIPAL ACTIVITIES:
  • Direct activities of Mine Engineering and Technical Services personnel in providing support for daily operation of open pit coal mines.
  • Undertake and direct pit and dump design and phase planning for open pit coal mines, including coal and waste scheduling and pit access road development;
  • Coordinate with consultants and others in developing overall site plans and reclamation plans;
  • Develop designs which optimise the safety and cost effectiveness of the operation and which provide the flexibility to help ensure production goals are met;
  • Maintain plans, provide site liaison with mining contractor;
  • Prepare and assist in development of annual operating and capital cost budgets
  • Other duties as assigned.

SKILLS:
  • Mathematical aptitude, capable of developing solutions to three dimensional problems, ability to sequence and schedule complex inter-related activities
  • Good supervisory, communications and report writing skills.

ACCOUNTABILITY:
  • Ensures that pit and dump designs are practical and meet required geotechnical design criteria and can be mined in a sequence that provides continuous regular supply of coal at required rates.
  • Communicates clearly verbally and in writing

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
  • Degree in Mining Engineering and eligible for registration/registered as a Professional Engineer.
  • More than 5 years of experience in open pit mining, including at least 3 years in mine design and planning, preferably in coal.
  • Knowledgeable in computerized pit optimization and design.

WORKING ENVIRONMENT
  • Mine office environment with occasional travel
