Newcrest Mining is seeking the services of a Principal Mine Planning Engineer to work at our Cadia Development Projects. The position reports to the Study Manager and the primary focus of this role is the preparation and subsequent delivery of mine planning, mine design, schedules (physicals and costs) and business plan to support the Cadia Development projects from concept to feasibility studies.
 
Key accountabilities for this role include:
·         Overall Investment Business Case and Mine Plan including:
o        Mine design and planning
o        Investment optimisation
o        Ore reserves estimation
o        Leverage identification and assessment
o        Critical implementation planning
o        Schedule and cost estimate
o        Appropriate level of project front end loading (FEL) to increase business reliability
o        Risk and option evaluation
·         Cadia Life of Mine business planning
·         Documentation:
·         Study report with the necessary submissions and deliverables
·         Assisting in the presentation of the study report to decision makers
·         Assisting in the project endorsement, approvals & gating
 
Prerequisites for this role include:
·         Tertiary/postgraduate qualifications in Mining Engineering discipline
·         Appropriate levels of relevant experience including:
·         Project management expertise
·         High levels of mining and processing knowledge
·         Exposure to business and investment evaluation
·         Extensive mine design, planning, risk and option evaluation experience in block/panel caving project
·         Demonstrated experience in delivering pre-feasibility and feasibility studies for a block/panel cave project including mine planning, mine design, scheduling, and business planning processes
·         Solid background using Mine2-4D mine planning software, PCBC, Ventilation and Draw Simulation, capital cost estimation and financial modeling
·         Underground industry experience of at least 10 years
·         Block/panel caving experience of at least 3 years
·         Presentational skills, tenacity, personal resilience, excellent computational and writing skills
·         The ability to think and communicate effectively at all levels of the organisation
·         Work within time constraints and deliver within deadlines
 
Desirable
·         Postgraduate qualifications in mining engineering
·         Computer skills in using Minesight, VentSim, Vulcan
·         Exposure to underground caving operations
·         Experience in open pit mine planning and design
 
Cadia Valley Operations is located approximately 25kms south of the scenic and historic community of Orange, NSW. The region offers a diverse range of dining, shopping, nightlife and sporting amenities as well as tourist attractions. Bathurst is 30 minutes drive east, the Blue Mountains 1 hour, Sydney, Canberra and the coast are within 3.5 hours drive.
The successful candidate will be relocated to Orange and receive a competitive remuneration package.
