Site Based EHS Officer

The Role
· Comply with Sandvik and Client Safety policies
· Ensures all SMC Employees, contractors, sub contractors are adequately and suitably inducted / trained to carry out there tasks without risk.
· Conducts inspects / audits organisational facilities to detect existing or potential accident and health hazards, environmental incidents or non conformances.
· Determines corrective or preventative measures where indicated, and follows up to ensure measures have been implemented.
· Assist Site Managers in meeting safety requirements and recommends measures to reduce or eliminate accidents and health hazards.
· Attend Safety & Toolbox meetings & submit minutes.
· Recommends measures to reduce or eliminate accidents and health hazards as well as improvements to environmental performance.
The Person
· Formal qualifications in Safety or equivalent experience
· Ideally minimum 3 Years Experience in a Mining/Materials Handling environment.
· First aid competence
· Excellent communication skills – oral and written
· Ability to relate to all people at all levels and culture
· Organised and self motivated
· Computer literacy and confidence with Microsoft Office suite
