Principal Mining Engineer (Underground/Life Of Mine)

Our Client is the worlds largest gold mining company and currently has a
portfolio of 27 mining operations, many advanced exploration projects located
across five continents and a large land positions on the worlds most prolific
and prospective mineral trends.
Eleven of the companys mining operations are found within the Australasian/
Pacific region, with it regional head office located in Western
Australia.

Principal duties will include:

Planning/Design development projects
-
Technical support to the operating mines
-
Technical support to the Technical Services Group
-
Capital projects review and analysis
-
Project Improvement
-
Mining Studies
-
Life of Mine Projects
Key Result Areas/Essential Functions
- Project evaluation
-
Optimisation, design, scheduling and financial modelling
-
Study management and implementation
-
Manage a team of consultants where required
-
Provide high level guidance, support and training to the site based project
development teams.
TECHNICAL SUPPORT TO THE OPERATING MINES
-
Provide technical advice and support to the operating mines on an as required
basis
-
Provide an audit role for end of year reserves, budgeting and life of mine planning
CAPITAL PROJECTS
-
Review capital project expenditure requests as required
-
Monitor and report on progress as required
PROJECT IMPROVEMENT
-
Identify opportunities for project improvements.
-
Identify innovative ideas used by other companies
- Apply them to the Company
operations where appropriate
OTHER
-
Assist with project and company evaluations.

From time to time carry out project work for the mine sites
-
Assist with staff training and coaching
-
Contract writing / reviewing when required
-
Assist with technical issues related to underground mining where required
PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT
- Develop, maintain and improve knowledge and expertise in all aspects of
mining engineering
-
Keep abreast of advancing technology as well as new and innovative ideas,
through the study of publications, attendance of courses and conferences and
mine visits
REPORTING STRUCTURE/KEY RELATIONSHIPS
- To the Group Mining Engineer via the Strategic Planning Superintendent
- Direct report to the Strategic Planning Superintendent.
Authority Levels

To effectively undertake the accountabilities required of this position the
following authority levels are required:
- Access to Managers and senior staff in the mine operations and corporate
departments

Authority to address technical issues in the designated areas of responsibility
EDUCATION, SKILLS, EXPERIENCE AND ABILITIES:
-
Degree qualified Mining Engineer
-
Membership of The AUSIMM would be well regarded
- Broad experience, skills and abilities are required in the following
areas:
-
Minimum of 15 years experience in the mining industry with at least 7 years in
mine planning positions

Extensive experience in underground mine planning
-
Good communication and presentation skills both oral and written
-
Self motivated and able to work with minimal supervision
-
Previous experience at working in Africa would be well regarded
-
Relevant computer skills in word processing, spread sheeting and mine planning
WORK ENVIRONMENT/CONDITIONS:
-
The position is based in the Perth office, although regular trips to mine sites
within Australia and the Pacific will be required
