Primary Function:

The Mechanical Maintenance Technician is responsible for installing, lubricating, maintaining, troubleshooting, repairing or replacing machinery, equipment, physical structures, mechanical assemblies and components.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Wears required personal protective equipment, including a half-face respirator in designated areas, and adheres to all local, state, federal, and U.S. Silica health and safety standards
  • Conducts pre-shift and post-shift inspections on any equipment used during the shift
  • Follows and maintains all applicable standards related to Environmental Compliance
  • Uses four senses to observe mechanical devices in operation. Employs proper troubleshooting techniques to determine root cause of equipment failure.
  • Completes periodic lubrication routes.
  • Performs and records detailed Preventative Maintenance inspections.
  • Dismantles devices to gain access and to remove defective parts.
  • Examines form and texture of parts to detect imperfections. Repairs or replaces defective parts.
  • Performs equipment and component modifications as instructed by maintenance or engineering staff.
  • Starts devices to test their performance.
  • Sets up and operates band saw, drill press, grinder, pipe threader, and other metalworking tools to make and repair parts.
  • Performs sheet metal and structural steel fabrication using metal forming machines and power tools, stick and MIG welders, oxyacetylene torches and plasma cutters.
  • Exhibits solid understanding of safe rigging practices.
  • Operates various types and sizes of aerial lifts for personnel and materials.
  • Paints buildings, structures and equipment with a paint brush, roller or sprayer.
  • Conducts cycle counts (physical inventory) of maintenance spare parts and supplies. Communicates ordering and restocking needs to the appropriate team members.
  • Conducts safety audits (looking for unsafe conditions or unsafe acts.)
  • Assists with maintenance data collection and entry.
  • Ensures continuity among maintenance shift teams by communicating actions, irregularities and continuing needs.
  • Strives for continuous improvement. Attends training classes and keeps up to date with trends and advances in the mechanical maintenance field.
  • Maintains a safe and clean workplace by adhering to procedures and rules.
  • Capable of working at high elevations and confined spaces.


Education:
  • High School Diploma or GED


Experience:

Required
  • Adhere to safety rules and regulations. Work as part of a team.
  • Must be able to communicate effectively.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, blueprints, and procedure manuals.
  • Willing to work in a hot, cold, dusty, and noisy environment.
  • Willing to work any shift and weekends as assigned.
    • NOTE : This is a NIGHT SHIFT position
  • Physical and mental ability to work at heights (up to 150 feet above ground) and inside confined spaces

Preferred
  • Mine Safety and Health (MSHA) knowledge
  • Industrial Technology/Machining/Welding/Pipe-Fitting school and/or certification a strong plus.
