Description

Provides metallurgical advice to the Shift Operating Supervisor/Crew so that the necessary process adjustments are made to deliver quality concentrate in support of pellet production, pellet quality, and to achieve production targets.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Interacts with operating and laboratory crews to ensure product quality specifications are met.

  • Communicates with plant operators, plant repairmen, engineering and management staff to accomplish common goals.

  • Oversee lab personnel sample collection, preparation and processing.

  • Take corrective actions when concentrate or pellet quality is off spec to correct conditions affecting quality.

  • Review operational control parameters for previous 24 hour period.Observe trends and any other control anomalies that may need attention.

  • Review the concentrate lab sample results for chemical adjustments and compliance.

  • Prepare metrics for L2 meeting.

  • Make adjustments to reagent additions to the process as required.

  • Monitor changes to ore quality in anticipation of process adjustment.Communicate issue of ore quality that may impact production plan.

  • Monitor pellet quality (chemistry) and make process changes to support customer specifications.

  • Track concentrate moisture and determine the need to reclaim or make process and/or tonnage adjustments to maintain control

  • Direct location of out-of-spec pellet stockpiles.

  • Communicate with the Ore and Freight Administrator about the train loading schedule.If loading off-spec pellets, direct load points for correct pellet blend to ensure customer specifications are met.

  • Communicate with Operations Supervisors on scheduled equipment repairs to provide advice about timing of these so that no process variation associated with equipment outages is minimized.

  • During Shift Transition meetings, communicate with the incoming Met Tech on the current status of the plant operating process, and advise on any equipment or process issues that could affect the quality of concentrate during the upcoming shift.

  • Communicate with your peer Supervisors about any issues that could impact their performance.Work together to resolve issues.Escalate issues that can't be resolved to your Section Manager.
  • Work within the business and area systems. Advise your Section Manager of any system issues that impede the performance of your team.

Position Requirements:
  • A two - four year degree (related technical) or a minimum of 5 years of operational experience in mineral processing.
  • Supervisory experience preferred.
  • Experience/knowledge in mining and mine engineering processes and systems.
  • Experience/knowledge of maintenance processes and systems.
  • Knowledge of continuous improvement methods.
  • A fundamental knowledge of basic chemistry and mathematics.
  • Demonstrates a clear understanding of policies and procedures of operation; complies with and applies policies and procedures appropriately. Keeps current with and effectively applies new work methods, skills and technologies to complete work. Assesses situation accurately and determines appropriate action.
  • Proficient computer skills in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access and Outlook.
  • Familiarity with computerized maintenance systems (Work Order, Standard Jobs, APL's, Equipment Register and Scheduling modules), Ellipse preferred.
