Covia is looking for a dynamic Mine Supervisor who will have a positive impact on the Operations team at its Hephzibah, GA location.

The successful incumbent will have the following Key Accountabilities:

  • Ensure all activities follow corporate, state, or federal safety, health, and environmental guidelines and laws.
  • Stockpile and Plant Feed Management.
  • Stripping and Reclamation.
    • Work with Mine Planning to establish stripping areas in accordance to the Mine Plan.
    • Direct work of a surveyor to establish stripping areas
    • Direct work of stripping contractor.
    • Using the philosophy and techniques of continuous improvement, initiate various programs to improve quality, eliminate waste, decrease costs, and improve productivity's and other efficiencies.
    • Serve as a member of Hephzibah's Steering Team including responsibilities of manual reviews.
    • Organize/direct activities to maintain the plant site (drainage, roadways, etc.)
    • Serve as back-up to Production Supervisors when needed (shift work).
    • Perform other duties as assigned.
    • Working with the QC Supervisor and Laboratory Technicians, manage stockpile quality to ensure crude supply is adequate for generation of blends to dry and slurry plants.
    • Supervise hourly employees to ensure adequate supply of sliced clay is maintained for dry processes and crude piles are maintained in a manner to protect the material from wet weather as well as possible.
    • Organize and direct work of the Mining Contractor to maintain acceptable quality and quantity crude supply to the Plants.
    • Control extra charges incurred during stripping, such as ripping or overhaul.
    • Determine if blasting is needed and ensure all safety procedures are followed, including contacting neighbors, etc.
    • Develop and maintain a reclamation plan and direct reclamation.
    • Coordinate the outside surveyor to complete post-stripping settlement surveys. Calculate and report settlement results to the stripping contractor.
    • Ensure rate of stripping is adequate to maintain available crude targets.
    • Control activities of on-site sand contractors at the mine site.
  • Administration
    • Maintain all applicable spreadsheets, weekly reporting, etc. pertaining to mining operations.
    • Work in IFS as needed to support mining operations.
    • Write reports, create charts, analyze data.
    • Develop present presentations pertaining to mining and safety.
    • Write weekly mining summaries and annual mining section of the Plant's Process Assessment.
  • Miscellaneous


The successful incumbent will have the following Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's or technical degree preferred, or equivalent years of experience in mining or mineral processing field plus high school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Previous supervisory/management experience preferred.
  • Proficiency with MS Office is required.
