Reporting to the Senior Mining Engineer, the successful incumbent will ensure safely sustainable production from the Gwalia Mine through effective and efficient utilization of resources in accordance with the St Barbara Values. Specific duties will entail responsibility in one of the following areas; drill & blast design, ventilation, or paste fill.

Key accountabilities of this role include:

  • Contribute to the health and safety of all personnel in the Mining Department and who work in the Gwalia mine
  • Contribute to the Mining Department objectives in meeting its environmental, community and statutory obligations and is considered a welcome guest in host communities
  • Actively participate in a constructive and creative environment for business improvement within the Mining Department
  • Proactively support the mine planning and scheduling processes and identify constraints and opportunities to meet operational objectives
  • Ensure the timely and accurate daily reporting of mining performance physicals to management and the wider operations team
  • Provide engineering support to the Mine Foreman in the day to day operational requirements of development and production activities
  • Ensure that drill & blast and production plans are carried out to a high standard and issued in a timely manner
  • Provide support to the designated ventilation officer with their statutory duties
  • Liaise with, and provide support to, external contractors in regards to underground operational and schedule requirements at Gwalia

Experience and Qualifications Required:

The successful candidate will have:


  • Behaviour consistent with St Barbara ’s Values
  • Ability to produce a National Police Clearance (valid within the last 3 months) for site access purposes
  • Current unencumbered West Australian C Class Driver’s Licence
  • A Mining Engineering qualification accredited by the Institute of Engineers Australia, as required for WA First Class Mine Manager certification
  • Completion of underground practical experience as required for WA First Class Mine Manager certification
  • Two (2) to three (3) years relevant work experience
  • Strong ability to work collaboratively within a team
  • Strong communication skills, including communicating with people from different backgrounds and cultures
  • Ability to work to tight deadlines on multiple tasks
  • High level of enthusiasm for the work with high performance goals
  • Dangerous Goods Security Card

This role is offered on a 8 day on / 6 day off roster FIFO from Perth, DIDO from Kalgoorlie or Residential Leonora.
