Position

Reporting to the Superintendent Drill & Blast your duties will include:

  • Operate blast hole drill rigs including Atlas Copco Pit Viper 271 & D65
  • Operate and execute the Production activities to produce the required quantity and quality of blasted floor stocks
  • Execute the Drill & Blast work plan and allocate resources to ensure delivery
  • Monitor and report against the Drill & Blast work plan and elevate unplanned and non-routine activity or performance to the Shotfirer
  • Adhere to defined standard procedures and apply safe work practices
  • Review and request updates to Work Management to ensure timely and accurate execution of work orders (e.g. capturing time and attendance as well as all transactional data about work performed)
  • Monitor and manage quality of product and services provided to Customers
  • Keep abreast with latest technological developments and legislative requirements

Skills and Experience

As the successful candidate you will possess the following:

  • Drill & Blast experience accompanied by a Shotfirer’s Licence highly regarded
  • Western Australian Dangerous Goods Security Card (DGSC) is preferred
  • Sound communication and interpersonal skills
  • Experience in a large scale, open pit mining operation is preferred
  • Strong Initiative and practical problem solving skills
  • Minimum of C class manual drivers licence

Location

You will be based at our ‘Jimblebar’ mine site on a fly-in fly-out 8 days on, 6 days off, 7 nights on, 7 nights off roster. Jimblebar is the first Greenfield mine in over 40 years to be both developed and operated by BHP Billiton Iron Ore and is located 40kms North East of Newman, Western Australia. The outstanding facilities at the brand new FIFO village include; a fully equipped gym, swimming pool, golf driving nets, outdoor cinema, netted cricket pitch, tennis and basketball court; beach volleyball court, games room and TV lounge. All rooms at the village have access to 3G wireless internet and Skype, an ensuite bathroom, flat screen television, refrigerator and air-conditioning.
