Gold Fields Australia is currently seeking a Principal Operating System Engineer to join their Technical Services Department in the West Perth Office.

Reporting to the VP: Technical Services, you will be responsible for technical direction/support and leadership across several key areas such as; MOS development, execution of Deswik OPS strategy and deployment, capacity mapping and analysis and mining performance analysis. Working closely with the Business Improvement team, the successful applicant will be involved in strategy and plan development, providing site-based hands-on support and project work as required to deliver across the keys areas.

This role is offered on 5 days on and 2 days off working week, with regular time spent at site operations as required. Flexible working arrangements will also be considered for the right candidate.

Key responsibilities will include:
  • Always act in a manner that seeks to enhance the safety culture and performance of GFA and ensures that the Vital Behaviours are adhered to at all times
  • Manage the Mining Management Operating System (MOS) program. Lead MOS assessments to identify and implement Site and Regional improvements.
  • Lead the development and deployment of Deswik OPS across the Region - including the integration of OPS with other 3rd party systems.
  • Facilitate and support Capacity Mapping analysis at all sites to focus on Business Improvement and Technology and Innovation activities on areas that will deliver the best returns.
  • Conduct benchmarking analysis of key mining parameters across the Region to identify productivity improvement opportunities. Engage with RLT, SLT's and other functions within the business to use the benchmarking information to drive performance improvements.
  • Lead and support productivity improvement projects in a number of key areas


The successful candidate's CV would be expected to include:
  • Bachelor Degree in Engineering (Mining)
  • WA 1st Class Mine Manager's Certificate of Competency
  • Minimum 5 years' experience in an underground mining environment and at least 2 years in a senior/supervisory operational role with exposure to contract management
  • Previous experience in Business Analysis/Business Improvement activities
  • Familiarity with mining software (Deswik, Vulcan, Surpac)
