Job Overview

To support and lead Komatsu America Corp (KAC) cost improvement and cost control initiatives for production and service parts operations of 5 Manufacturing operations located at Chattanooga, Newberry, Peoria and Ripley. Provide direction and support to foster a mentoring relationship to strategic suppliers or Midori-kai suppliers and adapt tactics based on maturity and track record of the supplier to meet the goals of the Mid-Term cost improvement plan for each KAC manufacturing plant.

Key Job Responsibilities

  • Develop existing supplier base to grow, improve and expand supplier capabilities focusing on Midori-kai suppliers (strategic suppliers for KAC plants). The key performance areas to help suppliers improve are: safety, financial health and strength, reduction of in-house / total costs, improve quality/5S, environmental compliance, lead-time reduction and on-time deliveries. To visit supplier facility and analyze technical capability, manufacturing strengths and limitations, quality level and standards of suppliers to verify that they meet Komatsu standards.
  • To negotiate prices for annual purchases of $35,000,000 of steel materials. On-going monthly and quarterly cost negotiations for HR Coil & sheet, CR Coil and sheet products. To evaluate potential new steel suppliers and fabricators investigating those with potential benefit to KAC manufacturing plants.
  • To prepare and issue weekly reports and monthly reports needed to inform all Komatsu personnel worldwide of the quarterly negotiated price with steel producers and the relationship of the prices to the North American Steel Markets.
  • To support and promote e-Procurement activities to: a) ensure all phases of the supply chain are the most efficient means of delivering supplies and components to the manufacturing facilities; b) to gather, analyze and disseminate cost information of the movement of materials through the supply chain relevant for future price negotiations; c) conduct e-sourcing tenders to cross-source components that meet SLQDC requirements.
  • Facilitate & support KAC, KMC & KLTD management meetings and events.


  • BS in Engineering or Business Administration or Supply Chain Management or related field from a top ranked University.
  • 5 - 10 years of total experience in sourcing and/or purchasing direct materials for global Original Equipment Manufacturers.
  • Demonstrates adequate knowledge of production/assembly/procurement/engineering and service-parts operational principles, concepts, industry practices, and standards.
  • Demonstrates strong MS Office (Excel, PowerPoint), Analytics/Statistics, Programming and Project Management skills. Knowledge of ERP systems preferred.
  • Demonstrates excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Travel of approximately 25% necessary.
