[Company] Marine (DBM) is based in Cape Town, South Africa and is part of the [Company] group. Activities managed include Marine exploration, geophysical surveys, sampling, mining, ship conversion, upgrades and maintenance, large project management, engineering design and mining system equipment builds. Reporting to the Supply Chain Manager, the Procurement Practitioner will be an integral support to the Technical section of [Company] Marine.

The main purpose of the role is procurement of goods, capital equipment and services, sourcing of new vendors, benchmarking of pricing, management of commercial risk, maintaining adherence to policies and procedures, ensuring that value for money is maximized and cost savings are generated for the company.

The key measurement of success will be the ability to demonstrate cost savings through commercial negotiation and strategic initiatives, creation of value and management of commercial risk.


The Duties will include the following:
  • Recommends, in liaison with the originator, suppliers to invite to tender based on an analysis of the technical information provided by the originator.
  • Prepares enquiry documents ensuring maximum safeguards and benefits to the company, based on information provided by the originator such as technical specifications, commercial factors etc.
  • Issues enquiries to selected tenderers and oversees the clarification of tenders.
  • Executes the commercial evaluation in order to make informed decisions.
  • Provides advice to the originator and other personnel on legal and commercial implications of tenders during adjudication process.
  • Progresses the tender package through the approval process to ensure timeous placing of the contracts.
  • Negotiates most favorable conditions such as terms of payment and delivery dates prior to contract award.
  • To lead the supplier negotiations, recommend supplier selection and implement contracts to encourage continual improvement.
  • Compile the supplier contract document and incorporating any changes agreed between the Contractor and the Company.
  • Provides input to continuous procurement process improvements.
  • To support the business to monitor supplier's performance in line with KPIs, contractual obligations and service level agreements.
  • To engage with Finance to understand the business plan to maximize value for money and cost savings to assist with supplier negotiations.
  • To effectively manage the supplier management database by highlighting key contracted information and supplier performance.
  • To provide active benchmarking data and analysis to ensure the company achieves continued value, creativity, flexibility and sustainability across the marine supply chain.
  • To effectively engage with contract managers about the value of robust procurement and ensure adequate internal training and processes are understood and best practices adhered to.

  • A professional qualification as a minimum - Legal qualification with commercial experience is an advantage
