Rosemont is a copper development project, located in Pima County, Arizona, approximately 30 miles southeast of Tucson. Ausenco has been working with Hudbay Minerals on the Rosemont Project since 2015; through value engineering and detailed feasibility study phases, proceeding to full EPCM development of the processing facilities, site infrastructure and tailings facilities. Project duration is expected to last from Q2 2019 to Q2 2022.

Rosemont will be the third-largest copper mine in the United States, accounting for 10% of domestic annual copper production, and has an expected 19-year mine life. The Project has recently completed a 10-year permitting process and will be one of the most environmentally sensitive and advanced operations ever permitted in the United States, including the largest dry stack tailings facility of its kind in the world. The processing plant will produce copper and molybdenum concentrates by a process that includes; crushing, grinding, flotation, concentrate handling, and filtration and dry-stacking of the tailing's residue.

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Project Engineer located in Arizona. We are looking for someone with passion and drive, who is highly organized and can ensure that our high standard of quality is maintained. With varied engineering, procurement and construction options, your skilled guidance in influencing project planning and execution is crucial to the delivery of sustainable and successful outcomes for our clients.


Act as Project Engineer for a variety of assignments across Ausenco's client base

  • Manage the development and documentation of project execution strategy and procurement / contract packaging strategy
  • Lead the preparation of comprehensive and realistic plans for; tender, evaluation and award of procurement and contract packages, delivery of equipment and materials to site, and execution of field engineering, construction and commissioning services on site
  • Coor dinate engineering and procurement efforts for timely preparation, evaluation and recommendation of procurement packages
  • Manage the receipt, review and return of procurement package vendor documents with the goal of developing certified vendor information to support scheduled engineering progress
  • Coordinate multi-discipline efforts for timely preparation, evaluation and recommendation of sub-contract packages, including direct responsibility for preparation of Scope of Work and other Tender Schedules
  • Manage interfaces between engineering / procurement / logistics / contracts and the construction team to resolve issues impeding contractor progress, e.g.; incomplete or inaccurate engineering design, missing or late materials, site instructions or contract variations needed to allow work on site to proceed
  • Monitor project cost, progress and schedule reports and coordinate action plans to correct deviations from plan
  • Provide input to weekly and monthly reports


Your attributes and accomplishments will include:

  • Engineering degree, with registration as a Professional Engineer in the State of Arizona preferred
  • Experience in the development, delivery and operation of mining or mineral processing projects
  • Specific design, operation and maintenance experience in tailings thickening, concentrate filter plants and high capacity conveying systems
  • At least 7 years of experience with an engineering consulting practice (including site work)
  • Desire to become part of a highly technical team providing ingenious and value-added solutions
  • Ability to work closely with Project Manager and discipline leads to execute work
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and oral, are essential
  • Demonstrated ability to think "out of the box" to provide our clients with innovative & value-added solutions.
  • Willingness to travel as required
