Job Summary:

This position is responsible for administration of applicable quality systems and directives that result in compliance with corporate and company policies, procedures, instructions, specifications, and customer requirements relative to product manufactured and assembled at Liebherr Mining Equipment Newport News Co. (LME) by performing the following duties personally or through reporting employees.

Essential Job Duties:
  • Serve as core team member on new product development with Purchasing, and Engineering.
  • Create and review supplier corrective action requests (SCARs) for effectiveness.
  • Function as a liaison between purchasing, engineering, manufacturing and suppliers to resolve quality and delivery issues prior to launch of new product. Represent the end user of our product during meetings, discussion and business decisions.
  • Identify, report, and escalate relevant Quality issues to management.
  • Participate in investigation and resolution of customer complaints.
  • Manage customer quality relationships including customer concerns and response, customer quality measures and submission of PPAPs.
  • Perform multiple functions within our Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) software.
  • Support production operations relative to quality issues.
  • Assist with development, measurement, and reporting of Quality metrics.
  • Collaborates with engineering and manufacturing functions to ensure quality standards are in place.
  • Develop inspection plans for receiving inspection for new products.
  • Generate efficient, comprehensive, and communicable reports and presentations.
  • Represent Quality Assurance in Material Review Board (MRB) and Ship Release meetings.
  • Develop Quality documents that comply with the latest ISO 9001 standards.
  • Interact with other Liebherr companies to support corporate initiatives.
  • Utilize AIAG methodology within the organization specifically PPAP, MSA, APQP, and FMEA.
  • Manage field incident reports by initiating corrective actions.
  • Assist with improving business systems.
  • Work with suppliers to improve performance, implement process controls, and quality plans.
  • Interact with purchasing, Engineering, Manufacturing, and Suppliers to improve processes.
  • Analyze and report supplier capability and performance.
  • Conduct supplier quality system, process and product audits and provide reports. 
  • Provide technical assistance to Manufacturing, Engineering, Purchasing and Planning from supplier's perspective.

 

Position Specific Competencies:
  • Job Skills: Applies the required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSA) in the performance of essential job duties:
  • Read, write, speak, and interoperate the English language.
  • Participate in or facilitate presentations and verbal meetings in group settings.
  • Understand and implement LEAN, 5S, and Visual Workplace tools.
  • Perform moderate to advanced arithmetic, geometry, trigonometry, and statistics.
  • Read an interoperate prints and dimensions in both imperial and metric standards.
  • Understand Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing.
  • Produce and comprehend simple and complex instruction and correspondence.
  • Generate efficient, comprehensive, and communicable reports and presentations.
  • Use modern computing equipment and software packages including but not limited to Microsoft Office Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Internet Explorer, and Adobe Acrobat.
  • Knowledge of sampling, confidence, control charts, Pareto analysis, histograms, normal distribution, process capability, root cause analysis, etc.
  • Ability to design process maps that take into account all process variables.

 

Education and Experience:
  • Four year degree or 10 years related manufacturing experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Four years of experience in a decision making role.
  • Certification as a Quality Auditor by the American Society for Quality is required; must be able to maintain current certification or have the ability to obtain certification within 12 months of hire.
  • Certified Quality Technician by the American Society for Quality.(Preferred)
  • Certified Quality Engineer by the American Society for Quality.(Preferred)

 

Additional Requirements:
  • Travel domestically and internationally up to 50% of the time.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a valid driver license and passport.
