Major Responsibilities

  • Oversee the Quality activities at the Solon- Bedford Gear location
  • Facilitate operations of the site Quality Department, direct and/or oversee the quality inspectors and all aspects of Quality Control for the Solon Operations
  • Meet annual metrics that align with senior management goals
  • Maintain certified ISO 9001 compliance
  • Adjudicate warranties
  • Compile and report metrics to illustrate the overall health of the quality system within [Company]

Predominant Tasks

  • Supervise and direct hourly and/or salaried Quality and Inspection personnel.
  • Coordinate with Operations the coverage and support of Quality and Inspection personnel.
  • Adjudicate warranties for parts/components produced/provided from the Solon and other areas as needed.
  • Develop Quality systems to collect, collate, monitor and provide Quality performance feedback to site operations and workforce.
  • Develop and conduct training programs to maintain and improve the Inspection/quality workforce skills and abilities and personnel from other functional areas, as applicable.
  • Perform weekly/monthly/quarterly reporting tasks to inform and provide visibility to management on the overall health and performance of quality within Solon Operations
  • Interact daily with Site, Production Management and hourly personnel.
  • Interface with Regional and Division Quality group members, as well as Vendors and Customers.
  • Investigate causes of Quality costs and initiate Corrective and Preventative actions.
  • Maintain a current level of knowledge of government/global specifications and regulations as it applies to the industry.
  • Organize and conduct Product, Process, and ISO 9001 Internal audits to ensure parts, components, and completed machines comply with applicable specifications and regulations.
  • Develop and implement procedures to be used by Inspections and Production personnel.
  • Work with Suppliers and Subcontractors to conduct audits, verify products and processes, and resolve quality issues.
  • Produce written reports that will effectively communicate to other functional areas the results of specific studies or other performance measurements.
  • Recommend the purchase of new equipment and systems to reduce Quality costs and meet the strategic business plan.
  • Manage the implementation of projects relate to Quality, as assigned.
  • Monitor and evaluate Process capabilities and implement Corrective and Preventative actions, as required.

Work Environment

  • The Site Quality representative has the responsibility of developing, reporting and managing the Quality function specific to this location and any additional tasks as assigned by the immediate supervisor/performance leader.  The incumbent must work with all cross functional site department representatives as well as other multi-site departments and team members.


  • The Quality Engineer is required to interface with individuals throughout the Division as well as people external to the company. This position must work with Product Design Engineers to ensure the integrity of the product designs and manufacturability and assembly. The incumbent must work with Manufacturing Engineering and Production to assess process capability and establish guidelines for manufacturing routing based on process capability analysis. This position must also work with Suppliers and Subcontractors to assure satisfactory products and processes. This position involves approximately 20 to 30 days of travel per year.


  • This position requires a minimum of an Associate Degree or equivalent in Quality, Business, Mathematics, or an Engineering discipline. Also, specialized training in statistics, problem solving techniques, or other Quality discipline methods are preferred. The incumbent must have a good understanding of computer applications, supervisory skills, and interpersonal skills. Shop experience is a plus, particularly in fabrication, machining, mechanical and electrical assembly, both in original equipment and rebuilt equipment. Incumbent must have strong problem solving, presentation, and communication skills. Experience in SAP or some other enterprise resource planning software is a plus, as are understanding routers and bill of materials, experience in union and non-union shops is a plus.
