Safety Intern will be assigned to the [Company] mining operation, a 250,000 TPD hard rock open pit copper mine located between Phoenix and Tucson, Arizona.

Safety Intern Tasks/Projects

  • Noise Mapping Project — utilizing building drawings in order to map noise levels throughout the plant and update signage and requirements as necessary.
  • Fall Protection Program - Assist in further development of electronic tracking and database of all Fall Protection systems on site as well as inventory fixed systems.
  • Contractor Controls Program — Update contractor controls program with current procedures and assist in the development of a "contractor controls book" for supervisors to utilize.
  • Annual Refresher Training — Assist with updating annual refresher training modules and coordinating update meetings.
  • Industrial Hygiene Monitoring — Assist in performing industrial hygiene monitoring per 2017 plan for dust, noise, sulfuric acid mist, welding fumes, etc.
  • Management of Change — Updating electronic management of change process and roll out to site.
  • Incident Investigation — Assist in developing documentation management and training related to incident investigation.

Position Requirements:

  • Requires excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Requires excellent organizational and interpersonal abilities
  • Our offer will require at least a ten-week internship commitment between mid-May and mid-August.
  • Must be attending college on a full-time basis
  • Must be a Sophomore, Junior, Senior, or Graduate level
  • Must be majoring in Safety Engineering, or closely related discipline
