A unique full-time position is available for a Senior Geotechnical Engineer to join our team initially focused on supporting our Leinster Operations located in WA, with frequent site based work required and then transitioning to a group geotechnical position supporting our Western Region operations based out of the Perth regional head office.

Comprising of both the Rocky’s Reward Open Pit and Leinster Underground Operations, you will be required to support the onsite geotechnical teams with required geotechnical support to achieve safe and efficient production targets.

In this role you will be required to:
  • Provide Geotechnical support and assistance to the operation, ensuring that the operation complies with all the relevant company and statutory requirements.
  • Work closely with Mine Planning Engineers/Void Officers to optimise design criteria and mine operations personnel for geotechnical based risk assessments to safely mine through old underground workings in the open pit
  • Design ground support (cablebolting, shotcrete, etc.) drawing on your experience in high stress ground conditions utilising Sub Level Open Stoping mining methods.
  • Propose safe and cost effective mining plans to key stakeholders.
  • Promote and maintain high safety performance through personal commitment and application of safety policies and procedures
  • Support the mining engineers with the design and implementation of optimal stopes, spans and pillars.
  • Monitor and assess the performance of the geotechnical designs.
  • Provide support with maintaining the IMS seismic system, seismic data processing, analysis and reporting.
  • Review and update the Ground Control Management Plan (GCMP)
  • Conduct Geotechnical Numerical Modelling as required
  • Participate in development of SOPs and JSAs
  • Attend weekly planning and production meetings
  • Assist in developing and maintaining a structural database and contribute towards continuous structural data acquisition
  • Develop new and effective Geotechnical risk management processes and procedures for the site
  • Conduct regular Geotechnical Audits of the mining operations
  • Assessment of geotechnical hazards relating to the daily operations of the mine
  • Review and recommendations for pit, waste dump and stockpile designs
  • Slope stability analysis and assessment of pit walls and waste dumps
  • Geotechnical monitoring planning and implementation
  • Geotechnical mapping and kinematic analysis
  • Look for, assess and implement Business Improvement Opportunities

To be considered for this role, you will need to be able to demonstrate/meet the following skills, experience and requirements:
  • A degree in Geotechnical Engineering (or equivalent)
  • A minimum of 5 years OP and UG operational experience including working in high stress ground in sub-level open stoping operations
  • Expertise in Vulcan software or similar
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office software (Word, Excel, Access)
  • Expertise in numerical modelling with various 2-D and 3-D software packages
  • A current WA “C” Class Driver’s License
  • Knowledge of the Mines Safety and Inspection Act and Regulations
  • Excellent geotechnical analysis and design skills
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to deliver key messages to a variety of target audiences
  • Project management experience with a strong commercial acumen
  • Proven background managing and leading a team of engineers
  • Confident in developing key client relationships to further expand business opportunities.
