The Senior Systems Development Engineer researches, develops, designs and validates hardware, software, and other components for use in product innovations related to large mining haul trucks.   


Essential Job Duties:
  • Develops product Innovations for use on large mining haul trucks
  • Researches solutions to system software required to support Innovation related projects
  • Performs feasibility studies for product Innovations
  • Evaluates system architecture(s) required for product Innovations
  • Manages contract engineering projects
  • Estimates time and cost requirements for Innovation related projects
  • Interfaces with other disciplines (Mechanical, Hydraulic, etc.) to create specifications that outline control system software necessary for haul truck functions.
  • Creates algorithms and code necessary to support Innovation related projects
  • Creates the documentation necessary to support Innovation related projects
  • Works with Electrical Engineers to specify proper control components (PLC's, computing platforms, HMI, and other associated hardware).
  • Analyses hardware and software tools necessary to perform validation and troubleshooting on product Innovations
  • Investigates and test vendors' products. 


Job Skills:
  • Knowledge of software programming tools (ex. Linux, CoDeSys, C++, etc.).
  • Knowledge of communication protocols (ex. RS232, CanOpen, J1939, etc.).
  • Knowledge of wireless telemetry as applied in the surface mining environment
  • Knowledge of hardware and computing platforms
  • Knowledge of system modeling techniques and software (ex. Matlab,Simulink)
  • Knowledge of diagnostic tools necessary to verify software stability and function.
  • Knowledge of Project Management tools (ex. Microsoft Project).
  • Ability to accurately scope technical projects
  • Ability to write specifications that describe software function.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance manuals, and procedure manuals, software specifications. 


Education and Experience:

Bachelor's degree (BSEE, BSComputerE) with eight years of system engineering and/or software experience in an engineering environment; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
